Career Myths after 12th

Do you know, 93% 12th takers in India, restrict themselves to only 7 of the above streams to make a career? Do you know, as many as 24 universities has been identified as fake by UGC in February 2022 and every year it increases? As per CMEI, current unemployment rate of India is 6.6% (6.6 million), at the same time, of the 17 million who were passively unemployed, 53% or 9 million women were willing to work although they were not actively looking for work.

The above figures are shocking and mostly linked with wrong career choice after 12th.

FACTS
1. Choosing stream based on scorecard - This is major problem in India. Science is for high marks, Arts for low and Commerce for average! This decision is done right after 10th.
2. Low importance to Arts - Arts is basically most looked down stream. Literally Artists, lawyers, thinkers, journalists etc, majority come from this background but then too it is seen low compared to Science or Commerce.
3. Education as number game - Students and guardians choose subject which score more rather than subjects that interests more.
4. Not as per dream - Selection of stream and subjects is as per score or family pressure and not as per the caliber and dream of the student. Maximum students and their guardian don't even know which stream or subject to take to reach the desired profession. Added to this is wrong guidance and lack of proper information from proper sources.

MYTHS
Not only the above, there are some myths too that are prevalent:
1. IT is only for Science students - IT needs knowledge and aptitude which anyone can have. Yes, there are streams where Science students are preferred like Data Science, AI, ML etc. but this accounts for only 20% of IT. So, IT is for all.
2. Can't do anything, choose Aviation - Absolutely a myth. Aviation is for only those who want to get into customer service and this can be anyone from any stream.
3. Commerce students can only learn Tally or Banking - No. Commerce have career options in IT as well as Aviation.
4. Career preparations can start after Graduation - Completely wrong! As per AICTE, around 78% students who do career preparation training along with Graduation, have a higher success ratio in getting jobs. So the keyword is, don't waste time. It won't come back.
5. Private jobs are not permanent and secure - Are you sure? During these COVID-19 times, firstly there are no government jobs and even government is hiring staff on contract. Secondly, the way economy has been hit, getting a job as per qualifications is a challenge. So do you still think you can choose? Please read Google reviews.
6. IT Programming languages and Aviation can be learnt from people who are already working and no special training is needed - Good but from where do you get a certificate from a recognised company? Remember that your CV should get selected first before you actually enter the interview room to prove your knowledge.
7. Technology and skills can be learnt at low cost from local institutes or local teachers or could be learnt free of cost from online resources - These are okay for introduction to the subject. But what if you really want to use the knowledge to make a career? Learn technologies or skills from recognized institutions only with updated syllabus, competent faculty and recognised certificate.
8. State board students are supposed to be weak in English - Are you using this excuse as an advantage? Really? English is world's local language and you cannot hide from it. Practise and you will become proper in daily and business English. It has nothing to do with board so don't use this excuse.

So, before you choose a stream and subject, open up your minds, get knowledge and right direction from professionals.
